This subject is turning out to be the most controversial protection issue on this website. If you have a daughter, niece or friend who is in her teens or twenties, this is worth their consideration. Younger people, guys and girls all experiment with everything including sex and intimacy. It's natural and normal. But only young women stand to really be damaged if their experiments include videos which show up on the web. Are young men not at risk? Of course they may be but generally only young women are in real jeopardy. Videos shot by friends of innocent entanglements show up on porn websites by the thousands. Sometimes placed there by the young women themselves (extremely common).
So why is this a problem? The most obvious is someone who knows the person in the video sees it and reacts. Parents, of course, will not be happy to see their loved one cavorting in a video. But of greater concern: Facial Recognition software is becoming more pervasive. The 20 year old sophmore away at school having a blast in her dorm room may one day be the 40 year old Mom or 42 year old executive building a career. It doesn't take much imagination to see how that exposure is not desireable.
This is not a judgment about anyone's personal behavior. Young people and not so young people show up on websites all the time doing what comes naturally to them. The question is, do they want to be seen in these videos by the whole world?
The good news, simply turn off the camera. Couldn't be easier.... On occasion I have assisted a parent or younger person to discuss this sensitive issue.
